NYDO is seeking to appoint a Social worker based in Eersterust, Pretoria, Gauteng Province.
National Youth Development Outreach (NYDO) seeks to recruit a social worker (out of school youth focus) to join and contribute to our mission, thereby ensuring that the organisation has the capacity and skills to transition to the next phase of our strategy. NYDO exists since 1990 to actively build diligent, responsible, contributing youth for the future. Our social justice activities aim to address underlining causes of crime as it is essential to prioritise protecting children and youth from drugs, violence, and corruption in our societies. The deterioration of our communities that are overwhelmed by drugs, crime, and unemployment impacts the safety of children at schools, on playgrounds, and even at home.
As a social justice organisation, our mandate is to work on holistic training, education, and developmental programmes. We creatively support youth to ensure safe space and influence their ability to make good life choices, obtain skills to contribute toward the economy, and strengthen the family as a support structure. These activities focus on ensuring an alternative life away from disruptive and criminal activities.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to develop, coordinate, and facilitate the goals and activities within the Youth Development programmes. This position will work closely with the Social Services Supervisor/Programme Manager on Integrated Social Crime Prevention, Youth Development, Diversion Framework, and other social justice documents. This position delivers social services supporting the strategic objectives of NYDO and within the social justice setting as determined by the government. This position also effectively maintains relevant administrative systems to provide impact evidence, ensuring compliance to procedures and effective service delivery, events planning, and overseeing support services.
Key Responsibilities:
The social worker will contribute to delivering holistic services and actively contribute to initiatives supporting NYDO strategic objectives.
Contributing to the development and implementation of organisational and operational plans.
Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of interventions in line with the strategic objective of NYDO.
Apply effective communication techniques to build and maintain relationships with participants, stakeholders, partners, and colleagues.
Embrace diverse cultural backgrounds and linguistic needs based on respect and trust.
Perform work within a legislative and ethical framework to ensure high-quality service delivery that supports participants' rights and interests.
Undertake a range of social work administrative functions, including completing workplace forms and documents, storing information, using and maintaining equipment, and responding appropriately to enquiries in the workplace following NYDOs policies and procedures.
Competency Profile:
BA or B. Social Science Degree in Social Work (minimum of 1 year, experience in child protection or criminal justice services will be an advantage)
Must hold current registration with the SACSSP
Valid driver's license essential
Afrikaans provisioned essential
Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Knowledge of the Child Care Act and Child Justice Act is an advantage
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of developmental needs of children, youth, and young adults.
Must be highly motivated to deliver positive change and showcase the ability to adapt to change in a limited resource environment.
Must have a passion for creatively creating change and impacting youth through different channels. Social media skills will be an advantage.
