Covid-19: Common mistakes to avoid
It has been increasingly observed that people get used to these regulations and start ignoring most of the guidelines. In the midst of everything, there are common mistakes that people continue to make. This article therefore aims to remind us of the mistakes we should avoid.
- People focus on what is allowed rather than what is safe
People often feel like they can get into contact and mix freely with friends (especially young people) because they believe they are not at high risk. They then go back to their homes where there are elderly people whom research has proved are at a higher risk.
Fact: Social distancing rule applies to both young and old.
- People are trusting those who say” I am careful”
People assume that while they are being cautious and taking extra measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, their loved ones are also doing the same, which may not be the case. Some people are not aware that they have actually contracted COVID-19 while others may even choose not to disclose that they are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms. Some people may not be honest about their “carefulness” in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
Fact: Do not trust anyone, treat everyone like they have Covid-19 in order to prevent the possible spread.
- Inadequate face covering
It seems some people wear masks because they were told to do it, not because they have a full understanding of how to wear them. Some people wear fancy face shields and or masks which do not adequately cover the nose and the mouth. Every individual should take responsibility for protecting themselves and others when in public spaces, by properly wearing face masks that are prescribed as safe.
Fact: The face masks should cover both the nose and the mouth; all people MUST AT ALL TIMES cover-up in the presence of each other.
- Assuming everyone who is outdoors is safe
People assume that when they are outdoors, they do not stand a chance to contract or are not at risk of contracting covid 19. Being outside of a building only minimises the rate of the Covid-19 spread; it does not prevent it.
Fact: Always abide by Covid-19 regulations, indoors and outdoors, and avoid gatherings.
